Brief
What is the future of banking? How will the Big Banks like Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) adapt?
Problem
Banks are limited to those with money or an income and have a bad reputation of being corrupt and power-hungry, especially the Big Four banks including CommBank. In the future, what if banks were community focused and catered to all citizens, including those with almost no money?
Target Users
The Unsheltered
Homeless (unsheltered) citizens in Australia suffer many disadvantages through no fault of their own and the cycle of homelessness is very difficult to break. One of the reasons for this is the inability to save money in a secure way, such as in a bank. Another is the difficulty in retaining important identification documents, such as those for medical visits and job interviews. The increase in a cashless society also limits the already dwindling donations on streets by pedestrians.
CommBank Customers
We found that it’s rare for people to donate financially to charities except through habit, and even rarer for them to donate on the street to individual unsheltered people. This minimal number of donations decreases even more as cash-in-hand becomes less common.
